Safety
When we think of vehicle safety, the windshield is not the first thing that comes to mind. However the windshield plays a number of vital roles in the safety of your vehicle:
- The passenger airbag deploys against the windshield. If the windshield is not installed correctly, the explosive force of the airbag will blow the windshield out, rendering the airbag useless.
- In a roll-over accident, the windshield is essential to keep the roof from collapsing on the occupants.
A major concern when replacing your windshield is how long you need to wait before you can drive your vehicle after the replacement. When the windshield is replaced, it is bonded to your vehicle using a urethane adhesive. Depending upon the temperature and humidity, conventional urethane can take anywhere from 3 – 15 hours (in San Diego weather) before the car can be safely driven. If the vehicle is driven before this “safe cure time” the windshield could pop out during an accident, putting your life at risk.
Incorrect windshield installations have resulted in death and injury to some unfortunate motorists. At MasterGlass we take extra care to ensure you get a safe installation every time. We do the following to ensure you of the safest possible installation:
- We only use Essex urethanes and primers. Essex is the leading brand of auto glass adhesive made by Dow Chemical. It is used in most car manufacturing plants in North America. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s the best. Our technicians are thoroughly trained by Essex in the correct application of their primers and urethanes.
- We not only use the trusted Essex brand adhesive, we exclusively use their latest product Essex Express. This gives a 1 hour safe drive away time - in winter or summer! It’s the most expensive urethane which is why very few of our competitors use it. But ask them how long you need to wait before driving after a replacement by them, and if they’re honest, they will tell you 3-6 hours in summer and 6 – 15 in winter. However most will not tell you this. A less informed customer means they can get away with using cheaper products. Our view is that a well informed customer is a safer customer and a repeat customer.
- MasterGlass is a charter member of the recently developed AGRSS standards. AGRSS (Automotive Glass Replacement Safety Standards Council) is an industry organization that has developed a set of standards for the replacement of auto glass. MasterGlass has recognized this development as a great step forward for the industry is a registered as a charter member – adhering to the safety guidelines the organization lays down.
